Hello Lovely Hikers!
It’s a mad rush in our house to get those Christmas presents in the mail, so keeping it short! Maybe you could book a cultural hiking trip for your loved one? My husband disagrees :-). If someone had a course on how to get your spouse to love hiking as much as you do, I’d buy that!

Use this to self-book your hiking trip - perfect for Spring and Autumn hikes. Just download it and write in your dates and hotels to stay organized. I used a version of this for my Tour du mont blanc hike in 2025 - found out I had double booked a night. Saved me 500 euros!

Trail Tips
Here are some tips I wish I knew before embarking on this incredible journey.
Timing is Everything
Avoid the scorching summer heat and the bustling crowds by planning your hike in the spring or fall. These seasons offer cooler temperatures and a more peaceful experience, plus you’ll save money on accommodations!
Embrace the Sand
Get ready for a unique challenge: sand! Whether you’re crossing sandy beaches or expansive dunes, the Fisherman’s Trail will give your ankles and knees a good workout. Embrace it as part of the adventure.
Choose the Right Footwear
Traditional hiking boots aren’t the best choice here—they tend to fill with sand. Instead, opt for lightweight trail running shoes. Pair them with gaiters or slightly long pants to keep the sand out and enjoy a more comfortable hike.
Lighten Your Load
Take advantage of the convenient luggage transfer service. Simply tag your bags and leave them at your hotel lobby by 9 a.m. They’ll be waiting for you at your next stop, allowing you to hike with just the essentials.
Diverse Accommodation Options
From shared hostels to private hotels, the trail offers a range of places to stay. Hostels in charming fishing villages provide a cozy atmosphere and the chance to meet fellow hikers. If you prefer more privacy, there are mid-range B&Bs and luxurious hotels with saunas and plunge pools.
Savor the Local Culture
The Fisherman’s Trail is a gateway to authentic Portuguese culture. Enjoy exquisite local cuisine and immerse yourself in the heritage of the region, far from the usual tourist spots.
Don’t worry about getting lost! The trail is well-marked with bold blue and teal signs, making it easy to follow. Any incorrect paths are clearly marked with an X, so you can confidently enjoy your hike without stress.
Meet Fellow Hikers
This trail is accessible to hikers of all fitness levels. You’ll meet a diverse group of adventurers, each at their own pace. Share stories, meals, and laughter, creating memorable connections along the way.
Ready to explore the Fisherman’s Trail? Pack your bags, lace up your trail runners, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
Happy hiking!
Peace out!
