Hidden Alpine Gorge Hike - Hollentalklamm (Germany)

Watch one of Germany's most pristine gorge hikes - perfect for the heat in summer near Garmisch.

Hello! How are you doing today? Hope you are well…This email is for the people planning next summers alpine hikes. We ran across this hike randomly and because we did it slightly differently than the valley tourists, it was a hit.

Most people drive to the bottom of the Hollentalklamm gorge and just walk up to the hut for lunch and back. Instead, we chose a nearby gondola to ascend part way and traverse across and mostly downhill (yes, I know I hate downhill but the unbelievable views of Zugspitze (Germany’s highest mountain) and the sheer ruggedness of it was outstanding.

Lunch at the hut was delish, and then you enter a cool dark tunnel with peekaboos of some incredibly milk blue water famous in the Wetterstein mountain area…the only sucky part is getting back to your car at the gondola station as it’s a flat mountain road from the end of the gorge.

I give it an 8/10, especially for Garmisch as that place while gorgeous can get quite crowded especially in August. If it’s a hot day, this is a perfect place to escape the valley heat.

until next time,

-Morgan
