Cherry blossoms have nothing on Almond blossoms in terms of beauty and they come much earlier. In fact, they are blooming right now on the Deutsche Weinstrasse.

It’s about 1 hour south of Frankfurt and the festival runs for 2 weeks starting this weekend. It’s a fab place for early Spring hiking and there’s even a long distance path here called the Pfalzer Weinsteig - you could hike between villages and stay in hotels each night.

This day hike is accessible year round but you really want to go in March to catch the superb Almond blossoms and other early fruiting trees that dots the vineyards. Trail guide to come soon…
