Zillertal Alps Hikes
I read all these maps so you don't have to

Austrian hiking trips
Once you’ve hiked the Insta Famous Olpererhütte in the zillertal alps, what next?
I read all the maps and apps around Olpererhütte Austria so you don’t have to.
The main hike up to Olpererhutte, or Zillertal Alps Bridge, that was a sweaty beast. Took 1.5 hour up and 1.5 down of knee pain. The super views and the amazing suspension bridge that makes you LOOK really cool even though it’s easy is totally easy.
These hikes are tough and full of steep ascents and rocky trails.
Hike Over the Top of the Zillertal Alps JUST for lunch. Baller.
However, if you’ve checked off your bucketlist the cool Olpererhütte suspension bridge, otherwise knowns as the Zillertal alps bridge photo and you want more in this area, you can do a hut to hut 5 day hike on the Berlinhöhenweg.
Or the much less demanding Schlegeisspeicher to Pfitscher Joch dayhike that’s a good 8 miles of relatively easy and wide trails with sweeping views, waterfalls and starts at the same stunning Schlegeis reservoir in the Zillertal Alps.
Going to lunch in Italy offers amazing pasta, non-sweet red wine and the super cool factor to literally walk to Austria for lunch make it worthwhile.
But also the Schrammach waterfalls, hand carved wooden statues and views of both Italy and Austria make it worthwhile as a recovery for you tough hikers or a really good challenge for us normal people.
Step back in time: Schlegeis Reservoir
You’ve got to go through some mountain tunnels to get to the lake and it means you leave the world behind. It’s definitely worth a stay at one of the mountain huts (hütten, rifugios) in this area to really get a feel. You can stay down in Mayrhofen in the valley and most people do. But…it’s just not the same.
The worst part of the Alps can be the crowds. And at the Zillertal Alps Bridge you will get crowds most likely during the day.
You avoid this by staying at one of the lakeside or mountain huts in the region and get to experience the magic of the Zillertal without the day crowds.
Honestly, I’ve not enjoyed my trips by car to most of the Alps or Dolomites in the same way that my family friends and I experience the mountain magic by hiking up to a lovely hut with a small backpack to a hutte.
It’s not for everyone though. But the Dominikushütte makes it for everyone as you can park directly at the hütte and enjoy the solitude. They make it seem like you are a mountaineer without having to rough it.Thanks for reading! 💞 Crave the PlanetIf you missed the download, here's the free Dolomites packing list.Subscribe to keep up with all my vlogs or check out my trail travel guides online here.
